Coin cooldown: how many minutes the bot avoids a coin after a trade

Updated:

The coin cooldown (the "Pause per coin, min" field) sets how many minutes the Snapback bot will not open a new trade on a coin after the last trade on it has closed. It is a safeguard against repeated entries into the same coin that has not calmed down.

What it means in plain words

A coin that has just pumped can pump again, and again. Without a pause the bot could short it once more almost immediately after the previous trade closed, especially if that one closed at the stop. The pause sets a "cooling-off period" for each coin separately.

Why it exists

The setting protects against a streak of losing entries in the same active coin. It also gives the market time to settle before the bot accepts a new signal on that coin as fresh.

How it works in the code

Before opening a trade, the bot looks up the latest closing time of any trade on that coin on your account. If it is later than "now minus the pause", the signal is rejected with the reason "cooldown after the last trade". If the pause equals 0, the check is off. The check is among the cheapest, meaning it runs before the balance is requested from the exchange.

Illustration of the mechanism only, not advice: the pause is 240 minutes and the last trade on the coin closed at 10:00. Until 14:00 new signals on this coin are rejected; after 14:00 they are allowed.

The pause is counted from the closing of a trade, not from when it was opened. Whether a closing time is recorded for an entry order that did not fill was not separately verified at this point in the code, so we do not claim it.

Allowed values and defaults

A whole number of minutes, at least 0. The default is 240. Zero means "no pause". The configuration sets no upper limit.

What happens if it is longer or shorter

  • Longer pause: the bot returns to the same coin less often, with fewer trades. Repeat pumps that would have worked out are skipped too.
  • Shorter pause: the bot returns to a coin sooner, and quick repeat entries after a stop are possible.
  • Zero: the coin can be shorted again right after the previous trade closes.

How it connects to other settings

Common mistakes

  • Confusing the pause with the entry order's waiting time: they are different settings.
  • Expecting the pause to apply within a single bot only: it is shared across the account.
  • Setting a very long pause and not understanding why the bot skips a coin that has risen again.

Where to find it in the bot wizard

The "New bot" or "Edit" form, the "Risk" block (not "Safeguards"), the "Pause per coin, min" field.

Frequently asked questions

What is a coin cooldown?

It is the number of minutes during which the bot does not open a new trade on a coin after the last trade on it has closed.

What is the default?

240 minutes (4 hours). A value of 0 turns the pause off.

Does the cooldown apply to a coin across all my bots?

Yes, because the last closed trade on that coin on your account is used, no matter which bot opened it.

Why do I need a pause after a trade?

A coin that has just pumped can pump again. The pause stops the bot from shorting the same coin over and over in a row.
